“Senotherapeutics: Targeting senescence in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis”. In this Review Article with the Ana Mora lab, we discuss mechanisms leading to telomere attrition in alveolar type II epithelial cells and the acquisition of a senescent phenotype in the aging-associtaed disease of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. In addition, we discuss the role of senescent myofibroblasts at promoting progressive scarring of the lung tissue and emerging novel therapeutic strategies to treat lung fibrosis by eliminating senescent cells with the so-called “senotherapeutics”.
